The «Chaika» Hotel Complex – one of the oldest hotels in Karaganda. Its history dates back to the 30s of the last century – the first building of the hotel complex was built in 1935, which, however, was named «House for Visitors». But in 1946 was constructed another building – in order to expand the hotel, popular with tourists.
Decision to change modest name was made in the mid 60s. The new name of the hotel was in honor of the first woman cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova: the word «Chaika» (Seagull) was her radio call sign. By the way, Valentina stayed in the hotel in 1963. Since then, it has become a kind of tradition, and since the 1970s Yuri Gagarin, Yegor Titov and other soviet astronauts visited «Chaika». This, by the way, show plaques that adorn the walls of the first, the oldest buildings of the hotel.
Now «Chaika» is a large modern complex that includes three buildings with 45 comfortable rooms and wide range of services: a luxury restaurant, sauna, swimming pool, conference room. Near the hotel is a beautiful park with lawns and picturesque alleys. Each room is equipped with satellite TV, telephone, refrigerator.
